Becoming more active is a big step in improving your health; however, it may also mean pain and injuries if not done properly. Keep these few tips in mind when exercising:
WATCH YOUR POSTURE
Maintain good spinal alignment to reduce strain and chances of injury.
WARM UP BEFORE YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Increase overall circulation and oxygenation to all muscles. Walk for 5-10 minutes at a pace that increase your heart rate while being able to carry on a conversation.
STRETCH AFTER ACTIVITY
Stretching is an activity many people take out of their work out routine. This can lead to injury. Be sure to spend at least 15 minutes after your activity to stretch the main muscles used during exercise.
Also, keep in mind that you may benefit from a consultation with one of our physiotherapists even in absence of injury. If you observe unusual stiffness, clicking or cracking of joints or if you have difficulty with certain movements, it may be the early signs of future problems or injuries. A simple consultation with our movement specialists could help give you more insight and prevent these problems from surfacing. If you have any questions, talk to one of our physiotherapists.
