Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese remedy that involves the insertion of extremely fine needles into specific points on the body.  Through the conceptions of Yin and Yang (balance), this process will encourage the body to naturally heal itself and release the pain.

Western practitioners have taken this approach and refined it to study its effects.  They have discovered the process releases endorphins, serotonin, and cortisol, all of which are proven pain relievers in the area of intramuscular stimulation.

How does acupuncture work?

The insertion of needles stimulates the nervous system which will release chemicals into the body, specifically the muscles, spinal cord and brain.  These chemicals will either change the perception of the pain being experienced or release additional chemicals that will promote natural healing.  Through balancing the biochemical makeup of the body, the patient improves.
