Pilates classes Ottawa

Joƫlle Segers on Pilates Tower Reformer

Location: Motion Matters Exercise and Rehab Centre, 164 Laurier Ave. W, Ottawa

What is the Pilates technique?

The Pilates method, created by Joseph Pilates, is a century old technique that has recently gained widely in popularity. This method consists of a "body-mind" comprehensive system of physical and mental conditioning.

Participants perform Pilates exercises on a mat or with specialized equipment. These exercises involve full body conditioning including core stability, strengthening and stretching while focusing on quality of movement, body awareness and coordination. This technique has been scientifically proven to be beneficial to posture, core stability and flexibility.

Pilates is an exceptional tool for people in the field of rehabilitation. Under the supervision of a physiotherapist with a Pilates instructor certification, traditional Pilates exercises can be safely modified to accommodate each participant. Whether you are an elite athlete or recovering from an injury or simply looking to enhance your health, Pilates will benefit you.

Pilates equipment

At Motion Matters Pilates exercises can be done on a mat with small equipment (foam rolls, rotator discs, rings and balls) or on a special bed built with a sophisticated system of mobile carriage and springs: the Tower Reformer.
