Joelle Segers

In 1981, Joëlle Segers completed her four year Baccalaureate of Kinesitherapy from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium. Upon relocating to Canada in 1987, she successfully completed the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) Physiotherapy Competency Exam.

With over 20 years of experience, Joëlle has developed advanced clinical knowledge and technical skills. Her widespread clinical practice areas include: cardio respiratory, neurology, gerontology, Intensive Care services, home care services, in-patient orthopaedic, out-patient orthopaedic and sports medicine services.

Joëlle has pursued further physiotherapy credentials through post-graduate training in the areas of Manual Therapy (E1V1, E2V2, Sohier Technique), Acupuncture (Level I, AFCI), Neuromuscular Postural Chains (Meziere) and Diagnosis and Treatment of Muscle Imbalances (Sahmann Level I).

As a result of her European training, she has developed a unique treatment outlook that considers a patient's overall lifestyle and function. She is a firm believer of the Global Postural Rehabilitation and has recently completed the full Pilates certification program (floor and equipments) at The Pilates Centre of Montreal (2004-2006). She is certified Personal Trainer Specialist (Can-fit pro, 2007) and has recently completed the cardiorespiratory fitness assessment and prescription exam(Human Kinetics, 2008) and the advanced personal training course with Can-fit-Pro.

Since 1987, Joëlle has been a member of the CPA and of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. She is also a member of the Alliance Pilates Method, Canfit-pro and of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science.

Joëlle founded BALANCE®, an assessment, treatment and prevention program specifically designed for dancers. This program has been widely used in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, and has received both national and international recognition.

In November 1999, Joëlle became the co-owner of Motion Matters Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic.
